Pancake Day and Pancakes Race.
Shrove Tuesday
or Pancake day is the day in February or March that preceding the first day of
Lent; Pancakes are associated with the Ash Wednesday because they were a way to
consume all the rich foods like eggs, flour, and milk before the 40 days of
Lent, the famous fasting season.
Shrove
Tuesday , in the past, started at 11:00am with the ringing of a church bell,
and the tradition said that the Pancake Race has originated in 1445 when a woman
was so busy making pancakes that she forgot the time until she heard the church
bells, so she raced out of the house while still carrying her frying pan and
pancake, tossing it to prevent it from burning. So today ,especially in
England, participant with frying pans race through the streets tossing pancakes
into the air and catching them in the pan while running.
