EDUCATION IN SOUTH KOREA
In South Korea the Kindergarten is optional, but the most of the parents prefer to keep their children at home as much as possible; however at the age of six they must start the 6 years compulsory Elementary Education, called chodeung-hakgyo (초등학교).
The kids move on to Middle School, jung-hakgyo (중학교), when they are thirteen and this lasts 3 years, there the studies are taken very seriously, also the discipline is stricter with uniforms,punctality and even haircuts.
At the age of sixteen they start High School, godeung-hakgyo ( 고등학교) and it has a duration of 4 years, until the kids are 19;
however the middle school graduates can choose to go on to Vocational School and it starts from the age of seventeen to the age of eighteen.
At the end of high school the students go to university, the Bachelor lasts 4 years, the Master 2 years and 3 years the Doctorate.
