It's an american drama film from 2008 and is an adaptation of the novel "The secret life of bees" by Sue Monk Kidd. The action takes place on July 1964 and It's setting in South Carolina, USA, here a 14-year-old Lily Owens is hunted by memories of her mum, that she killed with a gunshot while trying to save her from her abusive dad, and it's exactly from him that she ran away with her caregiver Rosaleen. They went in the town that held her mother's secret, to discover something about it, and there she met the Boatwright sisters : August, June and May, who took them in and taught her about the Black Madonna, the beekeeping and honey.
The characters are all different and have lots of distinctive tracts and the acting is really fantastic, it's a very strong all female cast. The plot is brilliant and makes you really understand the feelings of all the characters. One word that I can use for describing this movie is "empathic", because It speaks with the viewers. It's one of my favourite film and It's also good for understanding the black people conditions in that period, For adults and teens, a heartbreaking film.
